Keiretsu Forum was founded in 2000 by Randy Williams in the San Francisco East Bay and has grown into 53 chapters across four continents, spanning North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It describes itself as a global investment community of accredited private equity angel investors, venture capitalists and corporate and institutional investors.

The name is borrowed from the Japanese term for a network of interlocking business relationships, which is the model: chapters that operate locally but connect into a wider whole.

Who joins

Accredited investors, alongside venture capitalists and institutional investors. Family offices making direct investments fit naturally, and the network's structure suits them particularly well.

The chapter model is the reason. An investor joins where they live, sees local companies and does diligence with people they can meet. But a deal sourced in Barcelona can be syndicated to members in California or Singapore, so a family office joining one chapter gains sight of flow from all of them.

How membership works

Membership is arranged at chapter level rather than centrally, and chapters differ in how selective they are, with several operating on an invitation basis. Neither the central organisation nor most chapters publish dues, and charges for events vary, so both the process and the cost depend on which chapter you approach.

Active participation is expected rather than optional, in line with how angel groups generally work: the diligence that makes the deal flow worth having is done by members for each other.

What members get

Monthly chapter forums where companies present, shared due diligence, and access to the global network of chapters for syndication and co-investment.

The scale is the distinguishing feature. Most angel groups in this directory are single-city or single-country. Fifty-three chapters across four continents is a different proposition, and it suits a family with interests in more than one region or one that wants to see how early-stage valuations and terms differ between markets.

The trade is consistency. A federated network of that size will vary in quality from chapter to chapter, and the experience in a long-established chapter will not match a newer one. Anyone considering it should judge the specific chapter they would join rather than the network's overall size, and ask to attend a forum before committing.
