The Institute for Private Investors is a private membership organisation that has run since the mid 1990s, offering what it calls non-commercial investor education alongside in-person networking and an online community. It counts more than 1,000 ultra-high-net-worth investors across over 30 countries and 41 American states, and operates from West Palm Beach, Florida.

Who joins

Private investors, wealthy families and the executives who run private investment offices. IPI does not publish a formal threshold, describing its constituency as families of substantial wealth.

The phrase that does the most work is non-commercial. IPI's education is not delivered by firms hoping to manage the money afterwards, which separates it from most investor education a wealthy family is offered. That distinction is the organisation's founding idea and remains its clearest argument.

How membership works

Membership is selective and by application. IPI publishes no dues.

Industry sources have put the annual cost somewhere between roughly US$7,500 and US$20,000 depending on the level of membership. That is an outside estimate rather than an organiser's figure, and it is shown here as a range for orientation only. Confirm directly.

The relationship with Campden Wealth matters practically. IPI is a wholly owned subsidiary of Campden, and the two run joint programming under an IPI-Campden banner. IPI members are treated as already qualified for Campden's events and skip its separate application form, so a membership here also opens the door to a global forum calendar. Anyone weighing IPI against Campden Club membership should ask which gives better access for their situation rather than treating them as separate choices.

What members get

Peer-to-peer learning is the core, structured around what other members have actually done with their portfolios rather than what a manager recommends. Around it sit in-person forums and events, an online community for continuity between them, educational material from subject specialists, and access to research.

The geographic spread is worth noting for a US-based family. Thirty countries and 41 states is genuinely national reach in a category where most investor communities are concentrated in New York, Chicago and the West Coast.

For a family that wants investment education without a sales relationship attached, and peers who are allocating comparable sums, IPI is one of the longest-standing options in this directory. The unpublished pricing is the main friction, and the estimate above should be treated as a starting point for a conversation rather than a quote.
