Family VC is a membership community of family offices that invest in venture capital together. It was started in 2019 and is organised by Sachse Family Fund, a venture fund inside the Sachse single family office in Milwaukee, run by founder Dave Sachse. The community itself is not a fund: members invest directly, at check sizes the site puts anywhere from US$25,000 to over US$25 million, from pre-seed to pre-IPO.
Who takes part
The current site is aimed squarely at single family offices and claims more than 300 of them as members. Earlier descriptions were broader, taking in angel investors, wealthy individuals and corporate executives, and the stated membership has grown fast, from 80-plus family offices in a 2023 bio to 300-plus now. Those counts are self-reported.
Startups and venture funds are not members. They interact with the community through a separate deal-submission route, which keeps the room itself on the investor side.
How access works
You apply through a short form, with a fit quiz offered alongside. The network describes itself as selective but publishes no criteria. Its earlier community rules are a good sign of the culture: confidentiality by default, double-opt-in introductions, and no solicitation by people selling services.
Pricing is not on the current site. The network's own FAQ, as published in 2021, quoted an annual fee of US$2,500 to US$10,000 depending on team size and involvement. That figure is five years old, so treat it as history rather than a quote.
The same FAQ stated that Family VC takes no carried interest or fees on the deals it shares unless specifically noted. Given the organiser is itself a venture fund, that published no-fee policy is the disclosure that matters most; confirm it still stands when you apply.
What members get
The site lists four things: venture deal flow from pre-seed to pre-IPO, technology discovery for running the family office itself, a strategic network of family office peers with patient capital, and peer insight on venture investing and family office dynamics. Historically that ran as monthly deal sharing, monthly educational sessions and a newsletter, with diligence support from an expert network. The current site publishes no calendar, so ask about the present cadence when you apply.
Among the investor networks in this directory, this one is unusually peer-shaped: education and member-to-member conversation first, with deal flow arriving through the portal rather than a pitch stage. For a single family office building a venture allocation alongside others in the same position, that is the draw.
