EBAN is Europe's largest association of business angel networks and other early stage investors. Its stated mission is to drive successful and responsible early stage investing by giving members network connections, best practice and representation to government.
It is an association of networks rather than a network itself, which is the distinction to hold onto: joining EBAN does not put you in a room with founders pitching, it connects you to the organisations that run those rooms across Europe.
Who joins
Angel networks, early stage investors, family offices and the organisations that make up the surrounding ecosystem. Membership is available both to individuals and to organisations.
For a family office, the relevant use is reach. European angel investing is fragmented by country, language and legal system, and no single national network gives you sight of what is happening across the continent. An umbrella body does.
How membership works
Membership runs by application in either category. EBAN does not publish its fee schedule, so rates come on enquiry.
What members get
Six things, and they divide into practical and political.
On the practical side: access to deal flow drawn from across the member networks, discounts on events, documented best practice covering how angel investing is actually run, an online academy, and the standard documentation used in angel deals. That last item saves real money, since term sheets and investment agreements drafted from scratch by lawyers are expensive and largely identical.
Networking and strategic support round out the member offer, and the European Angel Investment Summit is the annual set-piece gathering.
On the political side, EBAN represents early stage investors to governmental stakeholders. That is more consequential in Europe than the phrase suggests. Angel investing across the EU is shaped by national tax reliefs, by rules on who may invest in private companies, and by EU-level financial regulation, and those rules differ sharply between member states. A pan-European body is the only mechanism arguing for consistency.
For a family office already investing in European early-stage companies, EBAN is best understood as infrastructure: the map of who runs angel investing in each country, the standard documents, and the education, rather than a peer group of its own.
