The Family Capital Forum is run by PwC Switzerland in Geneva as a half-day gathering. It is short by the standards of this directory, which is the point: an afternoon in the city rather than two days at a resort, aimed at people who can spare the former and not the latter.
Who attends
The audience is family business principals, next-generation family members and family office executives. That combination is deliberate and less common than it sounds. Geneva holds a large concentration of both operating family businesses and the offices that manage the proceeds when those businesses are sold, and the forum is pitched at the overlap.
Because the host is one of the large professional services firms, this is not a peer-only room. PwC advises family businesses and family offices on tax, structuring, audit and succession, and the forum is part of how the firm stays close to that market. That does not make the content weaker. It does mean you should expect the firm's own specialists on the programme, and read the agenda accordingly.
How access works
Attendance runs on invitation and registration through PwC Switzerland. There is no published fee for the forum, which is normal for events a professional services firm hosts for its own market. If you are not already known to the Geneva office, registering interest through the event page is the route in.
The absence of a fee should not be read as an absence of cost. Events like this are marketing, and the firm's return comes from the relationships that follow. That is a fair exchange as long as you go in knowing it.
What attendees get
A half-day programme covering the questions that sit between a family business and the capital it generates: governance, succession, structuring and what happens when ownership changes hands. The forum draws on PwC's Swiss practice and on the firm's research into family enterprise.
The strongest argument for it is proportionality. A family that is not ready to commit several days and several thousand francs to a conference can still spend an afternoon in Geneva hearing how other families in the same canton are handling the same problems. For a next-generation member being introduced to the subject, a half day is a far easier first step than a residential programme.
Anyone wanting depth rather than an introduction will find the longer Swiss options, including academic programmes in Lausanne and the screened forums in Zurich, better suited.
