The Global-Asia Family Office Circle, usually shortened to GFO Circle, is the family office community run by Singapore's Wealth Management Institute. WMI is an academic and training body, and its family office work carries backing from the Singapore Economic Development Board and the Monetary Authority of Singapore. That combination, a school running the community with the investment promotion agency and the central bank behind it, is unusual and is the main reason to pay attention.
Who joins
The Circle brings together family office principals and the professionals who run single family offices, alongside a curated network of partners and advisers drawn from private banking, wealth management, asset management, trust services, law, tax and philanthropy.
Note that advisers are part of the design rather than excluded. What separates this from a commercial network is that the curation is done by an institution with a policy mandate rather than by a business selling access, and Singapore's interest is in the ecosystem functioning well rather than in any particular transaction.
How membership works
Membership runs by application through the Wealth Management Institute, and terms are not published, so the cost comes from a conversation with WMI.
One published benefit is concrete: members receive preferential rates at the Global-Asia Family Office Summit, WMI's annual set-piece event in Singapore. Anyone planning to attend the summit more than once should price the membership against the ticket savings alongside everything else it carries.
What members get
Four strands. Curated networking within the Singapore family office community. Education, which is WMI's core business as a training institute and where it has more to offer than most peer networks. Research on the sector. And structured peer learning and cross-sector collaboration.
The annual summit anchors the calendar, running keynotes, plenaries and masterclasses on geopolitics, governance and deploying capital, with a separate Partners Forum day for advisers.
The strategic case is about access rather than content. Singapore has spent a decade deliberately attracting family offices, with tax incentives and a licensing regime that both changed several times as the policy matured. A community run by the institute the government works through puts you closer to how those rules are developing than a commercial conference will.
For a family already established in Singapore, or seriously weighing it against Hong Kong or Dubai, that access is worth more than another event calendar. For one with no Singapore connection, the education and research are the reason to look, and the summit is the cheaper way to sample both.
