FBN Asia is the Asian member association of the Family Business Network, the federation founded in 1989 that now spans 33 associations across 65 countries and represents around 4,500 business families. Joining FBN Asia is how a family in the region joins that wider network, and it is one of the few associations in the federation that publishes its price.

Who joins

The membership is aimed at multi-generational business-owning families across Asia. The stated eligibility condition is specific: the principal family member must be involved in managing or owning the business. This is a network for families that still run something, not for families whose wealth has been fully converted into investments.

What membership covers is unusually broad. A single family membership takes in all members of the business family, including spouses, next generation family members, and the senior non-family executives who work in the family business.

That last inclusion is worth pausing on. Most networks make you choose which one person attends. Bringing the family and its key non-family executives inside the same membership means the people who have to implement a decision are in the same room as the people making it.

How membership works

Family membership is listed at S$7,000 for twelve months. Set against the whole-family coverage, that is one of the better values in this directory: comparable networks charge a similar figure for one individual's participation.

Registration runs through the association's membership platform, and eligibility is checked against the ownership and management condition.

What members get

The programme runs across several formats. Global and regional conferences connect Asian families to the wider federation. International learning journeys take members to visit other families and businesses, which is FBN's signature format and does more than a conference panel ever will. The Intergeneration Compass programme and the Compass peer support group work on the relationship between generations. Workshops, webinars and sessions billed as conversations with families fill out the calendar, alongside social events, family days and family visits.

Four communities sit underneath: Next Generation, Office Family, Impact and Compass. The next generation community, open to family members aged 18 to 40, connects into the federation's 8,000 strong global NxG membership.

For an Asian business family, this is the most complete package in the region, and the published price means you can judge it without a sales conversation.
