FBN Asia Next Generation (NxG) Community

The Next Generation community, which FBN shortens to NxG, is one of four communities FBN Asia runs alongside Office Family, Impact and Compass. It exists for young members of business-owning families and connects into a global NxG network of more than 8,000 members drawn from 65 countries.

Who joins

Membership runs from age 18 to 40. Setting an explicit age range is rarer than it sounds and it matters, because the whole point is a room where nobody present controls your inheritance or employs you.

FBN describes the community as a safe space to learn from, share with and inspire each other, and states its purpose as maintaining, supporting and energising next generation members of families in business who face similar challenges, in a trusted environment.

Those challenges are specific to the position. Whether to join the family business at all. How to build credibility when everyone assumes the surname explains your job. What to do about a sibling who wants out. How to disagree with a parent who is also your chairman. These are difficult to raise with family, impossible to raise with employees, and awkward with friends who do not share the situation.

How access works

There is no separate application or fee. FBN Asia family membership covers all members of the business family, next generation members explicitly included, so a young family member gains access through their family's membership rather than joining in their own right.

The practical implication is worth stating: if your family already belongs to FBN Asia, your participation costs nothing extra and you may simply not have been told. If your family does not, joining is a decision for whoever holds the membership.

That dependency is the main limitation. A next generation member who wants peer support and whose family has not joined has no route in on their own, which is a genuine gap for someone whose independence from the family is part of what they are working on.

What members get

Peer events, learning journeys and social activities across Asia, plus access to the wider global NxG community through the federation. The learning journeys, where members visit other families and businesses, tend to matter most: seeing how a comparable family in another country handled succession is more instructive than hearing it described.

The scale is the real asset. Eight thousand members across 65 countries makes this the largest organised community of rising family business members anywhere, which means a member with an unusual problem can usually find someone who has already had it.
