BANSEA was established in 2001, which makes it the longest-running angel network in Southeast Asia by a wide margin. It describes itself as the leading angel investment network promoting the development of the angel community in the region, and counts more than 100 members. Companies connected to the network have numbered over 400, drawn from a founder community it puts in the thousands.

Who joins

Access is the defining feature. Membership is strictly by invitation and recommendation from existing members, and invitations go to angel investors who share the network's aims and will take an active part in developing the community.

That is a referral-only model rather than an application one. There is no form to complete and no route in for someone with no existing connection to a member, which is a meaningful barrier and is stated plainly rather than disguised behind a process.

The network does not publish a formal accreditation threshold, so the qualifying test is judgement by existing members rather than a net worth figure.

How membership works

By invitation, as above. BANSEA references membership fees on its site but does not display the amounts, so the figure comes on invitation.

Older regional research has cited dues for BANSEA, but those figures are several years out of date and we have not been able to confirm them against the network's own materials. They are not repeated here. Ask directly.

What members get

Startup Pitch Days are the recurring fixture, alongside member-exclusive events and events run with partner organisations.

The strongest argument for BANSEA is longevity in a region where most angel networks are recent. Twenty-five years spans the entire development of Southeast Asian technology investing, from a period when there was almost no venture capital in the region through several boom and bust cycles. The members who have been there throughout have seen what actually happens to early-stage companies in these markets, which is a different kind of knowledge from what a network formed in the last funding boom can offer.

For a family office in Singapore or the wider region, the practical obstacle is the referral requirement. If you know a member, this is among the best-established rooms available. If you do not, the more accessible regional options in this directory are the realistic starting point, and a route in may follow from there.
