Annual specialist real-estate and private-wealth forum in Southern California.

This is the West Coast edition of IMN's real estate and private wealth forum, run under Informa Connect and held at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach Resort at Dana Point in Southern California. Its full name on the organiser's site is Real Estate Family Office & Private Wealth Management West. It is a vertical event: real estate is the subject, and family offices are one of several audiences that invest in it.

Who attends

The room mixes family offices with wealth managers, high-net-worth financial advisers, registered investment advisers, real estate fund professionals, private equity investors and firms that sell services into the sector. Recent programmes have put more than fifty capital allocators and decision makers on the speaking roster.

The badge on this listing marks it as an advisers and professionals event, and that is accurate. Family offices are a significant part of the audience but not the whole of it, and the commercial layer is open rather than capped. Anyone expecting a screened peer group will find something different.

Set against that, the specialisation is real. Most family office conferences give real estate one panel. This gives it two days, which suits an office with a direct property book and questions that a generalist agenda will not answer.

How access works

Registration goes through the IMN site, with an option to register interest first. IMN does not publish a qualification standard on the event page, and does not publish rates for either family offices or service providers, so terms have to be confirmed with the organiser. Contact details for customer service are given on the page.

Note that this differs from Informa's SuperReturn Family Office events, which screen strictly and admit qualifying single family offices free. Do not assume one Informa event's access model applies to another.

What attendees get

Two days on financing, day to day investment management, succession planning, tax, asset protection and the practical concerns of holding property inside a family structure. The format runs panels and keynotes alongside closed-door discussions and question sessions, and the organiser provides a matching app to help attendees find the people they want to meet.

For a family office on the West Coast with real estate at the centre of the portfolio, the argument is depth in one asset class and proximity. For an office where property is a minor holding, a general family office forum will give better value for the same two days.
